Sub shop announces plans to open in Cottage Grove

Sandwich-lovers will have a new option in Cottage Grove early next year if a Milwaukee-based company’s plans come to fruition.

Cousins Subs announced this week it plans to open two to three locations in Cottage Grove.

“It’s a reasonably sized city … but it’s still not Minnetonka or Minneapolis,” said Mark Cairns, the company’s director of franchise sales. “We can go into a town like that and become a player in town.”

The company is in the process of identifying specific locations for shops, and seeking out franchisees to run them, Cairns said. He expects to identify sites within the next four months, and he said the shops could be up-and-running in the first quarter of next year.

Cousins Subs is also looking to establish locations in Hastings and Woodbury, Cairns said. There are currently 16 company-owned shops and 133 franchised locations operating in six states, according to a press release.

Cousins Subs sells East Coast-style submarine sandwiches, which are made with Italian-style bread, Cairns said.
