Girls swimming: East Ridge tops Park in battle of District 833 girls teams

The Park and East Ridge girls swimming and diving teams hit the pool for a head-to-head meet on Thursday, Sept. 30, at Cottage Grove Middle School with the Raptors coming out on top of their District 833 and Suburban East Conference mates 108-67.

The Park and East Ridge girls swimming and diving teams hit the pool for a head-to-head meet on Thursday, Sept. 30, at Cottage Grove Middle School with the Raptors coming out on top of their District 833 and Suburban East Conference mates 108-67.

In the meet, which East Ridge mathematically won with four events remaining, East Ridge took first, second and third place in the 200-yard IM, the 100-yard butterfly, the 200-meter freestyle relay, the 100-yard backstroke, the 100-yard breaststroke the 100-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle.

The Wolfpack’s best finishes in the meet were second place finishes in the 200-yard medley relay and in the 400-yard freestyle relay and third place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle and in the diving competition.

Former Park swimmer Alyssa Kong finished in first place for the Raptors in the girls 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:00.54 and was first in the 100-yard freestyle with a 56.16 time. Park’s Marit Christianson was the Wolfpack’s best finisher in the 200 free with a third-place 2:23.45. East Ridge’s Melanie Rabino took the top spot in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:22.78 and first place in the 500-yard freestyle with a 5:26.67 time. Taylor Johnson had the fastest finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a 26.19 time and was first place in the 100-yard freestyle with a 1:01.94. MollyPatt Horan had the fastest finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a 1:09.31 time, while former Wolfpack swimmer Meredith Ubel earned first place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:15.47.

In diving, East Ridge’s Jenna Karrow had the top score with a 239.55, followed by the Raptors’ Bailee Meyer, who was second with a 187.60. Park’s Alli Ramey took third place with a score of 172.40 and the Wolfpack’s Megan Bresnahan was fourth with a score of 136.20.

In the relay events, the East Ridge girls 200-yard medley relay team of Horan, Strickland, Moynihan and Lewis won the event with a time of 2:06.19. Park’s squad of Lissy Dorsch, Jenny Breault, Emily Frazer and Stacey Strickland took second place with a 2:09.07 time.

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the East Ridge squad of Kong, Rabino, Johnson and Ubel took first place with a time of 1:43.11 and paired up in the 400-yard free relay with a first-place 3:49 time. Park’s top group of Gabby Niewind, Stacey Strickland, Sarah Schiemann and Kari Moudek earned third place in the 200-yard free relay with a time of 2:00.23.

Park played host to non-conference adversary Tartan on Tuesday, Oct. 5, after the Bulletin went to print and, next, takes on Hastings on Thursday, Oct. 7, in an SEC meet at Cottage Grove Middle School.

Next, East Ridge welcomes SEC foe Roseville to Woodbury Middle School on Thursday, Oct. 7.
