Authorities on Thursday identified a boater who went missing on Big Marine Lake in northern Washington County.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office identified the missing boater as Robert Waters, 64, of Lindstrom, Minn.

The sheriff’s office was dispatched to the north bay of Big Marine Lake at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday on a report of an out-of-control boat.

By the time sheriff’s deputies arrived, a citizen had boarded the boat and gained control of it. Nobody was located on the boat or in the water, but a hat was found in the water near the boat.

The sheriff’s office water recovery team was called to the area to assist with the search, which was still active Thursday afternoon.
