Northern pike rule proposedRule would require release
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is taking public comment and holding two public meetings on a proposal that would require anglers on Sallie and Melissa lakes in Becker County to release all northern pike 24-36 inches in length.
The 24-inch limit would be replaced with experimental regulations that would allow anglers to keep one northern longer than 36 inches, while immediately releasing all northern 24-36 inches in length.
Local DNR fisheries staff will discuss the proposal and take comments from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 26, at M State, 900 Highway 34 East, in Detroit Lakes.
Written comments may be submitted until Oct. 8, by e-mail to James.Wolters@state.mn.us or to DNR Fisheries, 14583 County Highway 19, Detroit Lakes, MN 56501, or by phone 218-846-8340.
