Rollover on 80th Street injures three in Cottage GroveExcessive speed caused car to hit curb, lose control, police say. Driver will be charged.
Charges are pending after three were injured Thursday in a midday rollover accident on 80th Street in Cottage Grove.
Police were forced to cut off the roof of the Toyota Corolla driven by Filas K. Waindim, 41, of Newport, to reach a pair of injured, elderly passengers after the vehicle hit a curb, lost control and struck a light pole before flipping over while traveling eastbound on the 80th Street frontage road near Hynes Ave.
Waindim was driving too fast, according to an initial investigation of the one-car accident, said Pete Koerner, deputy director of public safety.
The driver was treated for minor injuries at the scene. Both passengers in the vehicle — an 84-year-old and an 80-year-old, both of Cottage Grove — suffered non-life threatening injuries in the crash, police say, and were transported to Regions Hospital in St. Paul and Woodwinds Hospital in Woodbury.
Police are not releasing the names of those injured at this time.
Waindim will likely be charged this week with reckless driving and having unsafe tires once the investigation is completed, Koerner said.
