Park High locked down briefly after rumors of gunNothing substantiated, police say, but school put on alert Friday morning
Rumors that a suspended Park High School freshman planned to bring a gun to school put the building on lockdown for roughly an hour Friday morning, police said.
School officials limited access to the school between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m., police said Friday, after rumors circulated that the 15-year-old, suspended for an unspecified offense, planned to return to school with a gun in retaliation for an earlier incident.
Deputy public safety director Pete Koerner said Cottage Grove police questioned the boy and his mother Thursday night and again Friday and were unable to substantiate the story.
“We do take the threat of school violence seriously and attempted to take all necessary precautions,” Koerner said.
Parents of Park students were notified by the school via e-mail, police said.
