A Woodbury SuperTarget store would create up to 250 local jobs, Target Corp. officials said.
The store probably would employ between 200 and 250 people, said Tom Carrico, a Target real estate manager. That figure includes a mix of full- and part-time jobs.
Jaci Bell, a Target development manager, said the retailer expects employee payroll and benefits at the proposed store to exceed $2.5 million annually.
The job numbers were announced during a Tuesday night neighborhood meeting about the planned store. The company proposes a 174,000-square-foot SuperTarget location west of Woodbury Drive and north of Tamarack Road. Its development plan goes to the Woodbury Planning Commission March 1 and to the City Council later in the month.
Woodbury Developers LLC, which owns the undeveloped 40-acre site, envisions a series of smaller retail and restaurant projects to the north, east and south of the SuperTarget. If the Target plan moves forward, other smaller retailers likely will get on board, said Paul Maenner of Woodbury Developers.
"We're actively in discussions with several (companies) right now," Maenner said. "Business begets business. This is a great draw for us to be able to partner with, and we're going to make this development a success."
