Park Nordic skiing: Snyder reaches state by .07 of a second

Park senior Amanda Snyder finished in 12th place overall at the Section 1 Nordic skiing championships on Tuesday, Feb. 2 at Valleywood Golf Course in Apple Valley earning a trip to the 2010 State Nordic Ski Meet.

In the pursuit-style race, Snyder earned the final state-qualifying spot out of Section 1, with a time of 45:10.2 — just seven/tenths of a second ahead of Lakeville South sophomore Maggie Singer, who came in 13th place.

After skiing a 24:32.00 classic time in the morning race, Snyder skied a time of 20:38.20 in the afternoon’s freestyle race to reach the state meet. Snyder’s freestyle time was nearly one minute faster than Singer’s time.

As a team, the Park girls finished in sixth place with 274 points. Winona/Winona Cotter won the meet with 380 points.

In addition to Snyder’s finish, Park senior Kelly Miles took 25th place, senior Alex Newell came in 44th, junior Sarah Manship was 49th, junior Annie Lisson was 11th and junior Ali Flipovich was 54th.

For the Wolfpack boys, Park senior Andrew Lisson was the team’s lone finisher at the Section 1 meet, finishing in 32nd place overall with a time of 42:26.2, earning all 69 of Park’s points at the meet. Lakeville North won the boys meet with 367 points.

The state meet is scheduled to take place on Thursday, Feb. 11 at Giant's Ridge Ski Area in Biwabik.
