Bells will ring for peace in south Washington County at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11 — Veteran’s Day — at St. Rita’s Catholic Church, All Saints Lutheran Church and Zion Lutheran Church, all in Cottage Grove, and at Community United Church of Christ in St. Paul Park.
Those who want to acknowledge the day with prayer, remembrance and hope are invited to coffee and fellowship at 10:30 a.m. at Community United Church of Christ, 1145 Summit Avenue, according to organizer Edie Seefeldt, a member of Community United Church of Christ.
“We are honoring those who served and are serving and also those who wait and are waiting,” Seefeldt said.
Seefeldt and her husband Al Fenske, who have grown small peace gardens at their St. Paul Park home for the past two years, heard about ringing bells on Veteran’s Day from a member of the Minnesota chapter of Veterans for Peace. The group works to “increase public awareness of the costs of war and to restrain our government from intervening, overtly and covertly, in the internal affairs of other nations,” according to its Web site.
