The East Ridge girls swimming and diving team took part in its first-ever meet on Thursday, Aug. 27 as it finished sixth out of 10 teams at the Suburban East Conference relays at Stillwater Junior High School.

The Raptors scored 60 points to finish ahead of Roseville (44 points), Forest Lake (38), Park (22) and White Bear Lake (22), respectively. Defending Class 2A state champion Stillwater won the event with 160 total points.

The relays, which are an annual season opener for the SEC, are held in a unique fashion. In the meet, each event takes place in a relay style. For example, in the 200-yard freestyle, each school would have up to three teams of four girls, each swimming the 200-yard freestyle as a relay.

The Raptors earned its best placing in the 1-meter diving competition with the trio of junior Bailee Meyer, freshman Jenna Karrow and freshman Corinna Mickus scoring a 171.80 to finish in second place. Woodbury won the event with a 198.9.

Other top finishes for East Ridge was a third-place result in the 800-yard freestyle relay in a time of 8:33.91 and a fourth place finish in the 400-yard freestyle in a 3:47.88 time. Stillwater won both events with times of 8:02.29 and 141.67, respectively. Individual finishes for East Ridge were not made available.
