After the Cottage Grove VFW baseball team’s final game, head coach Dave Gunter collected jerseys from the players — for what he felt could have been the last time.
Gunter, who has coached the VFW team for nine years, was debating whether to step down as head coach of the Post 8752 team and hand the reigns to Park head baseball coach Reid Tschumperlin, who was a co-head coach this season.
However, Gunter, who is 133-73 in his nine years with the team, and Tschumperlin will again tag-team the coaching duties next summer as co-head coaches. At least, that’s the plan right now.
“I think it could still work as a good relationship between Reid and I,” Gunter said. “I still haven’t handed anything over. Right now I’m washing and repairing uniforms, so that says something.”
