Coyotes win seventh straight; 10-2 overall

After a two-week All-Star break, the Cottage Grove Coyotes snapped right back into form, beating the Minneapolis Bombers 3-2 and 9-0 in a double-header on Sunday, July 12 in Minneapolis, to improve its winning streak to seven straight games in the Twin Cities Men's Adult Baseball League.

In the game No. 1 extra-inning win, the Coyotes (10-2) broke a 1-1 tie with two runs in the top of the eighth inning, then — although it allowed one run in the bottom of the eighth — held on for the win.

Jordan Hagen led the way for the ‘Yotes at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. Matt Ruben started the game on the hill, throwing all eight innings, allowing five hits and one earned run, while striking out 10. Ruben is now 4-2 on the season with a 1.88 ERA and 47 strikeouts in six starts.

In game two, Cottage Grove put up six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to pull away from the hapless Bombers (1-11). ‘Yotes pitcher Roger Morrison earned the complete-game shutout, allowing seven hits, while striking out two in his first start of the season. Providing a spark at the plate was Garrett Graves, going 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI, while Ruben continued to swing a hot bat, going 1-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBI. Ruben leads the team with a .467 average.

The ‘Yotes now enjoy six weeks of a home-field advantage, starting with the Mariners on Sunday, July 19.
