High-profile St. Paul defense attorney Earl Gray is representing former Park High School girls hockey coach Eric Darwitz, who has been charged with allegedly having sex with two former players shortly after he resigned for another coaching job.

Darwitz made his first appearance in Washington County District Court Thursday, July 2, and his next appearance is set for Sept. 11.

Gray previously represented Minnesota Vikings player Daunte Culpepper, charged in connection with the so-called Love Boat scandal and Gophers football player Dominic Jones, who was accused of rape.

Darwitz was charged in May with criminal sexual conduct for allegedly having sex with the players, who were 16 at the time, in a Woodbury home in August of 2006.

Darwitz was put on administrative leave from his job as a girls-under-16 hockey coach and admissions counselor at Shattuck-St. Mary’s school in Faribault, Minn., due to the charges, a school official said.
