Park golfer Jake Miller finished in 32nd place with a 36-hole 157 score after shooting a 77 on the second day of the two-day Class 3A state tournament on Wednesday, June 3 at Bunker Hills in Coon Rapids.
Miller, a junior, carded a 38 on the front nine and a 39 on the back, to finish 11 strokes behind the co-leaders – Eastview senior Joe Petrulo and Forest Lake senior Paul Moberg, who each shot 148 two-day scores – despite wearing a bulky cast on his right leg as a result of breaking his foot at the start of the season.
On the first day of the tournament, Miller shot an 80 and was nine strokes back of Petrulo, who led the field by a stroke after day one with a first-round 71.
In the team contest, Wayzata won the Class 3A state title with a 606 total, helped by a pair of second-day 71s by senior Blake Vettel and junior Kyle Beversdorf.
Wayzata shot a 299 on the second day to overtake Eden Prairie, which led by two strokes after the first day with a 305, but ended up in third place with a 617 after shooting a 312 on the second day.
Suburban East Conference opponent Forest Lake, which won the conference crown earlier this season, finished in second place with a 611. Section 3AAA foe Eastview was fourth with a 624 total score.
Miller — who earned All-State honors with the eighth-best average score in Class AAA this season — was the Wolfpack’s third-best finisher at the state tournament last season, as Park won the Class AAA state championship, shooting a two-day 157 total as well last year.
