Park golfer Jake Miller shot an 80 and is nine strokes back of the leader after the first day of the two-day Class AAA state tournament at Bunker Hills in Coon Rapids.
Miller, a junior, carded a 40 on the front nine and a 40 on the back to finish the first day in a tie for 36th place overall, despite wearing a bulky cast on his right leg as a result of breaking his foot at the start of the season.
Joe Petrulo, a senior out of Eastview, is the leader in the club house with a 71. Andover’s Taylor Tollette and Cambridge-Isanti’s Ty Liljander are each a stroke back at 72.
Eden Prairie turned in the low score as a team with a 305, two stokes better than Wayzata, which shot a first-day 307. Park’s Section 3AAA foe Eastview and Suburban East Conference opponent Forest Lake are tied for third with matching 310 scores.
Miller — who earned All-State honors with the eighth-best average score in Class AAA this season — will now tee off at 7:57 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3 on the final day of the state tournament.
Miller was the Wolfpack’s third-best finisher at the state tournament last season, as Park won the Class AAA state championship, shooting a two-day 157 total that included a 74 on the final 18 holes.
