No. 7 will have to suffice.
Although co-head coach Kyle Kane said the team hoped for a No. 4 seed, the Park-Woodbury girls lacrosse team earned the No. 7 seed in the upcoming Section 3 playoffs and will take on 10th seed Prior Lake on Tuesday, May 19 at Burnsville High School.
Park-Woodbury (8-7: 7-6 SEC) finished third in the Suburban East standings this season — it’s best-ever finish in the SEC and defeated conference foe Mounds View 9-4 in the regular-season finale on Tuesday. Prior Lake was 3-10 on the year out of the Missota Conference, with wins over Breck, Holy Angels and Owatonna.
A win in the first round would put the Royal Pack in the quarterfinals against either No. 2 seed Burnsville or No. 15 Visitation on Thursday, May 21. The Blaze (10-2) defeated Park-Woodbury 9-5 back on April 22.
Park senior Kayla Guanella leads the team in scoring on the year with 20 goals, followed by Park senior Katie Bahls with 15, Woodbury sophomore Jackie Hegg with 13 and Park junior Kelby Land with 10 goals.
Last year the Blake Bears won the state championship, defeating Eden Prairie 11-10 in the state finals. Section 3 opponent Bloomington Kennedy, this year’s top seed in the section, finished in fourth place in the state last year.
