O’Donnell concert
deadline is May 15
The South Washington Senior Center, in Cottage Grove, is organizing a trip to the Daniel O’Donnell concert at the Target Center, on Thursday, Aug. 20. The deadline to make reservations is Friday, May 15.
Tickets are $87 for Senior Center members and $89 for nonmembers. The bus will leave the Senior Center at 5:45 p.m. and return at approximately 10:15 p.m. For details, call the center at (651) 458-6650.
Lighten UP! — This lively group meets at 9:15 a.m. every Tuesday to weigh in and share the latest diet tips and tricks. Join them to add fun to dieting and learn their secrets.
Benefit of physical activities — Come and listen to Jenny talk about good health through physical activities at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 12. You know the advantages of exercising in a group setting. Learn what you can do at home to keep up the motivation and reap the benefits. This workshop follows exercise and is free to the public.
Billiard table at the Senior Center — There is a wonderful room in which the pool table and sticks are just waiting to be used from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Wii bowling — There is a Wii bowling league at the South Washington Senior Center. You can join a league or play at your leisure. Kathy, the Wii instructor, is available to help people who are new to Wii on Monday and Friday mornings. You can try tennis, golf or boxing or a variety of skill games to try.
Mah-Jongg — Mah-Jongg, the most popular game in the Orient, is a wonderful brain exercise that some say helps prevent memory loss symptoms. It is played with 152 tiles. The tiles you acquire are a matter of luck, but what you do with them develops the skill. Learn and play Mah-Jongg at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesdays.
Bunco — This is a dice game that is easy to learn and extremely fun to play. The group meets at 9:30 a.m. every third Friday of the month for play and a chance to win a prize. Don’t know how to play? Volunteers are always available to teach Bunco.
Defensive Driver Improvement Program — Save 10 percent on your auto insurance. Classes are held at the South Washington Senior Center on a regular basis. The cost is $18 for a four-hour refresher course and $20 for the first time eight-hour course. To register, call Kathy at (888) 234-1294.
Flexibility, Balance and Strengthening Exercises — Classes are held from 9:45 to 10:30 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays mornings and include cardiac aerobic exercises, stretching and cool-down. The fee is $3 per class at the door; pre-registration is not necessary.
