Cottage Grove City Council members on Wednesday will consider submitting a formal response to 3M’s proposed amendment to its incinerator permit that would allow the company to burn non-3M hazardous wastes in its Cottage Grove burner.
Mayor Myron Bailey said last week the city would publicly oppose the proposed amendment. The city, though, has no regulatory authority regarding the operation of the facility; that power lies with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency.
Agency officials last week said it seemed unlikely they would deny the proposed 3M amendment.
Other items on Wednesday night’s agenda include: a proposed ordinance to allow electronic message board signs in the city and a public hearing to consider a variance request by School District 833 to allow a 14-foot monument sign outside Park High School.
The council will also hold workshops to discuss staff reorganization and the 2010 and 2011 city budgets.
Open forum begins at 7:15 p.m. and the regular meeting begins at 7:30. The meeting is at Cottage Grove City Hall, 7516 80th Street South.
