St. Paul Park Fire Department Capt. Michael Kramer and Police Department Sgt. Randy Otto were honored for “outstanding commitment and service to the community” by American Legion Post 98, in St. Paul Park, Tuesday night.

Fire Chief Kurk Lee said Kramer is a born leader. “He was selected Firefighter of the Year for 2008 and deserves to be recognized.” Kramer, who has been a member of the fire department for nearly five years, is one of four captains who oversee training and equipment maintenance.

“Sgt. Otto has been with the St. Paul Park Police Department for 17 years,” Chief Mike Monahan told Legionnaires. “He is probably the strongest member of our staff. He is second in charge, supervises our patrol officers, works with the county SWAT team and is known county-wide as a committed high achiever.”

Legion president Dick Drude made the presentations, commending Kramer and Otto for “carrying out their duties with honor.”

The names of both men will be entered in district competition, Drude said. “Next year we want to include Cottage Grove and Newport fire and police departments; they all work together and should be considered for recognition.”
