A Cottage Grove man was charged earlier this month with two felonies for allegedly possessing stolen checks, discovered in his back pocket while he was being booked at a Woodbury jail for another crime.

Shawn Michael Jennrich, 28, was driving with a suspended license and nine unpaid tickets when Woodbury Police arrested him after a March 10 traffic stop at Woodlane Drive and Wooddale Drive.

According to the Washington County District Court complaint, once at the jail Jennrich was found to be in possession of six allegedly stolen checks, all blank, with six different identities. The checks were from banking and credit card companies: four blank Bank of America checks, one Discover and one Citi.

According to the complaint, Jennrich told police in a statement that he had received the six checks found in his back pocket from someone else. That person, he told Woodbury Police, was involved in stealing checks, credit cards and mail. Jennrich said he assumed the checks were stolen.

Jennrich was charged March 11 two felony counts of possessing stolen checks, and could face up to 15 years in prison if convicted. He has also been charged with misdemeanor driving after suspension.
