Charles E. Woodward, 98, passed away on Feb. 28, 2009.

Charles was born to George and Alice (LaTourelle) Woodward on Oct. 24, 1910 in Cottage Grove, Minn. He was raised and went to school in the Cottage Grove area in a little one-room schoolhouse.

 Charles was a farmer for the majority of his life, working the farm that had been in the family since 1908 and that occupied a good portion of the business and residential areas of 80th Street in Cottage Grove. During that time as a lifelong resident of Washington County, Charles was active in his community. He was a former president of the Washington County Farm Bureau and Washington County Historical Society. Charles was also named Washington County Outstanding Senior Citizen for 1987. 

On July 15, 1939, he was joined in marriage to his wife Fern Schoenheider at her home on 10th and Ashland in St. Paul Park. During their time together they were blessed with two daughters, Karen and Jane. 

Charles enjoyed photography, traveling (post-farming) and reading poetry. He was also a longtime member of the Newport Masonic Lodge. 

Charles is preceded in death by his wife Fern and brother Harry.

 He is survived by his beloved daughters Karen (Charles) Oase, Jane (John) Norman; grandchildren Lynn (Gregg) Johnson, Lane Oase, Jennifer Norman, Mark Norman (Jessica Goodrum); great-grandchildren Tyler and Cole Johnson; and sister Eleanor Belden. 

Visitation Friday, March 6, 2009 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Community United Church of Christ, 1145 Summit Ave., St. Paul Park. Memorial service is at 12 p.m. at the church. Private interment. Memorials preferred to Washington County Historical Society, Community United Church of Christ or donor’s choice.
