Letter: Porter the wrong choice

It is not surprising that the school board decided on Mark Porter. The school board has not been known for making good decisions.

I am surprised that Jim Gelbmann voted in favor of the decision to hire him. I have always thought Gelbmann and Tracy Brunnette were able to see the big picture and had the district’s best interests in mind.

There are only two reasons that the board decided to hire Porter. The first is to save money in the short term. The second is that the board really does not know what it is doing.

A legitimate hiring process would have found out that Porter is not what this district needs now or in the future. His answers such as “I would make it harder to leave” show that he is not ready for the job. Don’t make it harder. Fix it so students will not want to leave.
