Train draws a crowd
A crowd watched the Canadian Pacific Railway Holiday Train stop in Cottage Grove Dec. 12.
The sixth annual arrival of the Holiday Train benefits the Friends In Need Food Shelf, which serves people in Cottage Grove, St. Paul Park and Grey Cloud Island Township.
Area residents, organizations and businesses contribute food and cash to support the work of the food shelf.
This year, members of the train committee estimated donations would be approximately $30,000.
After the train arrived, and before entertainment, Mayor Sandy Shiely, announced the $42,000 had been raised.
And contributions are still being counted, according to Michelle Rageth, food shelf director.
“This community is so amazing,” she said. “There are so many people to thank, I don’t know where to start.”
