While everyone, including governmental units, are suffering the effects of the current economic crisis, Grey Cloud Island, the smallest township in Minnesota, will get a windfall next year.

Board Chair Dick Adams said, at the November meeting, that changes in the gravel tax formula could bring an additional $25,000 to the township next year, according to Aggregate Industries officials.

Last year, the township got about $5,000, Adams said.

Aggregate owns and operates a limestone mine in the township.

“We could use the money to lower taxes,” said Scott Leick, town treasurer.
