Letter: Derrick can do the job
Derrick Lehrke and I grew up next door to each other.By: Jo Hillmann, Cottage Grove, South Washington County Bulletin
Derrick Lehrke and I grew up next door to each other. We were inseparable. He was like a brother that I could always count on. He is one of the most honest people I know. As a child he demonstrated his imagination, creativity and his ability to lead by staging theatre shows and magic tricks in his parents’ garage. He has also demonstrated that through his participation in CGAA.
Derrick has always done good things for our city. I remember him clearing trash from the streets, nursing injured animals back to health and being kind to everyone he met. Nowadays you see him down at Von Hanson’s raising money for our troops with A Touch of Home. You never hear him complain about any task. He is always there, willing to lend a helping hand.
Derrick is a person that always follows through on his promises no matter how difficult it is. When he tells me he will fight to cut unnecessary spending and put resources toward the essentials, I believe him. I trust him because he’s never gone back on his word.
Although we have both grown up and moved out of our childhood homes, we still live in Cottage Grove. We may not talk every day, but Derrick is there when I need him. His values, which include this dependability, are genuine. It shows that Derrick’s commitment to our city, like his dedication to me, will never waver.
We need someone to make a positive difference in our city. We deserve a trustworthy person that knows and exercises family values. Cottage Grove needs a council member who cares about our city, its neighborhoods, residents’ safety, and how our money is spent. We need someone who will do their best for the city, no matter how tough it gets. That person is Derrick Lehrke.
Derrick Lehrke really cares about Cottage Grove and everyone who lives here. Give him a chance to show what he can do for us. Vote for Derrick Lehrke for city council.
