By: Barb Jones, Cottage Grove,
I would like to extend my thanks and appreciation to the several people who came to my son’s aid on Hillside Trail Thursday, July 10.
I was in Woodbury on Radio Drive at about 7:25 p.m. when I received a phone call from my son, Dylan Smallidge, saying he had gotten hurt on his skateboard going down the hill. That was an understatement. A man I do not know came onto the phone and told me my son would need medical attention. When I arrived on the hill, my son was laying on a yard covered in blankets and ice packs and surrounded by caring neighbors and passersby.
Dylan had hit the pavement first. He had lost skin on his forehead, chin, both elbows, his chest, both hips, both knees, one thigh and one ankle. His nose was swollen to about three times its normal size. His lips were swollen. Three teeth were moved back significantly in his mouth and his braces were lodged into his gums. My son is so much tougher than his mother and should recover just fine.
I am extremely grateful to all of the caring neighbors in my community who cared for and comforted my son until I arrived. I don’t even know your names, but I want to thank you for taking care of my son. I am fortunate to have you as neighbors.
