Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 16, 2008 at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, Oakdale, with the Reverend Bill Martin, officiating. A visitation was held at the Kok Funeral Home in Cottage Grove on Sunday, June 15, 2008 from two to six p.m. Friends also called from 9 a.m. until Mass time on Monday at the church. Burial will be in Guardian Angels Cemetery, Oakdale. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Little Sisters of the Poor.
Robert G. Slagle was born March 21, 1922 in Moorhead, Minnesota, the son of George C. and Genevieve (Sheridan) Slagle. He moved with his family at an early age to St. Paul and graduated from Monroe High School. He started with North Central Publishing and then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps serving in the South Pacific during World War II. He was united in marriage to Cecilia M. Smith on June 29, 1946 in St. Paul. Robert retired from North Central Publishing in the mid 1980s after 47 years. In 1998, the couple moved to Cottage Grove. Robert was devoted to his family, and enjoyed spending time with them at the cabin in northern Minnesota. An avid walker, he walked six miles a day, every day.
He is survived by his sons John (Vicki) Slagle of Lakeland, Patrick (Holly) Slagle of Cottage Grove, Thomas (Mary Jane) Slagle of Vadnais Heights, Mark (Janene) Slagle of Mahtomedi, and Vincent (Anne) Slagle of St. Michael; his daughters Barbara Larson (Ron Berkeland) of Duluth, Minn., Mary (Ernest) Hintze of Stillwater, Minn., Joanne Huberty of Saint Francis, Minn., and Teresa (Tom) Hourcade of Hawley, Pa.; 21 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
