Weekend Planner: Town hall meetings Saturday


MONTESSORI DAY OPEN HOUSE -- Montessori Day, a preschool held at All Saints Lutheran Church, 8100 Belden Blvd., in Cottage Grove, is hosting an open house for interested families from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 29. Montessori Day is a non-denominational school that is licensed through the State of Minnesota and offers classes for preschool and toddler-aged children.


ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT FISH -- American Legion Post 98, 328 Broadway Ave., St. Paul Park, is serving fish dinners from 5:30 to 8 p.m. every Friday through April. Tickets are $9 for the all-you-can-eat fish buffet. A steak dinner with salad, potato and breadstick is available for $9. The hamburger or cheeseburger basket is $5.


TOWN HALL MEETINGS -- State Sen. Katie Sieben and Rep. Karla Bigham will host a town hall meeting from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at St. Paul Park City Hall, 600 Portland Ave. All interested citizens are invited to attend. "Town meetings are designed to be listening and learning sessions," Sieben said.

KIDNEY TRANSPLANT BENEFIT -- Connie Phelps, the massage therapist at Anytime Fitness in Cottage Grove, has a friend who is a single parent preparing to donate a kidney to her 24-year-old son Alex. "My friend, Zoe Vaughter, needs help to pay the bills while she and Alex recuperate from surgery," Phelps said. "The process takes nearly four months." A benefit birthday party for Zoe and Alex is scheduled from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at All Saints Lutheran Church, 8100 Belden Ave., Cottage Grove. Zoe will be 50 and Alex, 25. Activities will include music, raffles and food.


PANCAKE BREAKFAST -- American Legion Post 98 Auxiliary in St. Paul Park is hosting an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 1, at the Legion Hall, 328 Broadway Ave. Tickets are $6.50; seniors, and kids, 11 and younger, pay $6. Children, 3 and younger, eat free. In addition to pancakes, there will be scrambled eggs, sausage, orange juice, coffee and milk.


ONE-ACT PLAY -- Park High School's one-act play, "J.B.," by Archibald MacLeish, will be staged for the public at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3 at the school. Tickets are $4 at the door. Park drama department directors Denise Atkinson and Steve Estenson chose the 1958 Pulitzer Prize-winning play. The plot is based on one of the best-known stories in the Bible's Book of Job.

AUTHOR ERIC DREGNI VISITS -- Eric Dregni, author of "In Cod We Trust: Living the Norwegian Dream," will talk about his book beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, at the Park Grove Branch Library, 7900 Hemingway Ave., Cottage Grove. The book is a memoir of the year he and his wife and infant son spent in Trondheim, Norway, according to the press release. For details, call the library at (651) 459-2040.
