Weekend planner: Car wash, outdoors activities this weekend

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources invites families to Take a Day OFF (Outdoor Family Fun) at William O'Brien State Park, along the St. Croix River about 12 miles north of Stillwater on State Highway 95, near Marine on St. Croix. From 1 to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 10, the DNR will provide a variety of opportunities for people who'd like to try outdoor recreational activities, but could use some hands-on help getting started, according to a press release.

Members of the Park High School Varsity Cheerleading squad will wash your vehicle from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 10, at Honest 1 Auto Care, 8118 Hadley Ave., in Cottage Grove. "No vehicle is too big or too small," is their theme. The charge is $4 for cars and $6 for SUVs and vans. Proceeds from the event will help pay for expenses for the sideline and upcoming competitive meets, according to a press release.

The Park High School boys hockey team will host the fourth annual Park WolfPack Open on Saturday, July 10, at the Mississippi Dunes Golf Link in Cottage Grove. Sign-in begins at 11:30 a.m. with a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start.

The cost is $85 per person for those who preregister and Includes 18 holes of golf (for a four person scramble) golf cart and dinner at 6 p.m. To preregister, call Jay Moser at (612) 987-1990.

Dodge Nature Center and Underwater Adventures will present campfire programs, both set at 7:15 p.m. on Saturday evening, July 10,at two Washington County parks.

A naturalist from Dodge Nature Center will introduce "Raptors," at the Lake Elmo Park Reserve, while a representative from Underwater Adventures will look at who lives in Minnesota Habitats at the program at St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park in Denmark Township.

Both programs are free; parking is $5 per vehicle. Lake Elmo Park Reserve is located at the intersection of County Road 19 and County Road 10, one mile north of Interstate 94 in Lake Elmo. St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park runs along the St. Croix River on County Road 21, between County Road 76 and County Road 78, in Denmark Township.
