Weekend planner: Minnesota college expo Saturday

Hope Christian Academy, a non-denominational community Christian school in St. Paul Park, has scheduled a visit day and all day open house from 9:30 a.m. to 3:40 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 26 for interested families and students.

State Senator Katie Sieben and State Rep. Karla Bigham will host "Saturday Conversations with Minnesota Colleges," a program for students and parents, from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Feb. 27, at the Park High School cafeteria.

Cottage Grove trainer Annie Elmer will lead a hike beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27, at Afton State Park in Denmark Township. The hike is free; parking is $5 per vehicle.

A naturalist from Dodge Nature Center will introduce the skills of fire-building and survival shelter construction during a program "Wilderness Skills", from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27 at Lake Elmo Park Reserve.

Cottage Grove resident Kathy Julson invites everyone to a spaghetti dinner fundraiser for her granddaughter, Kathryn "Baby Kate" McAllister, from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 28, at the Cottage Grove VFW Post 8752 Red Barn, 9260 East Point Douglas Road, in Cottage Grove.

Orchestra students from School District 833 middle schools will perform with the East Metro Symphony Orchestra at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 28, at the Loft Stage, East Ridge High School, in Woodbury. Admission is free.
