Zywiec's opens new corn maze

Email

Bill Zywiec, owner of Zywiec's Landscape and Garden Center said he spent so much time laboring in cornfields as a child, he resisted the idea for years of wandering around one for fun.

Fall visitors to the garden center will see that Zywiec finally changed his mind. The garden center is debuting a dinosaur-themed corn maze Sept. 12 that will be open through the end of October.

Zywiec said it was important to him that the maze be about more than just getting to the other end. Visitors will get cards with 12 pictures of dinosaurs on them, and throughout the 3-acre maze there are cards that tell them the name of each dinosaur.

That's not to say the maze isn't a little tricky. Zywiec said even he got lost in it when he went out to mow in the field.

"I had no idea where I was," he said "It was pretty cool."

Zywiec said he worked with a Missouri company to design the maze, which forms a Tyrannosaurus Rex, and the company used global positioning system equipment to cut the maze in just about three hours.

Zywiec's staff will watch over those going through the maze from a tower, and they'll sell helium balloons to those who want to be able to keep track of where the members in their group are more easily.

Zywiec's is located on Highway 61, one mile south of County Road 19. The maze is open on weekends from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 12 through October. The cost is $7 for people 12 and older, $5 for children under 12 and free for kids 2 and under. For more information go to www.zywiecs.com.
