Winter storm hits south Washington County

Heavy snowfall reduced visibility and caused poor driving conditions Sunday throughout south Washington County, including along 80th Street in Cottage Grove.

A winter storm hit south Washington County and the broader region Sunday morning and was expected to continue into Monday.

The National Weather Service said 6 to 10 inches of snow was possible during the day Sunday in Cottage Grove, with another 3 to 7 inches possible overnight.

The snowfall and blustery winds hampered visibility and driving conditions were poor early Sunday afternoon.

The National Weather Service reported that snow and patchy blowing snow was likely into Monday morning, with a chance of snow after noon Monday.

Washington County authorities were responding to a number of vehicle spin-outs and minor crashes on area roadways.
