Weekend planner: Wedding traditions program this weekend

FRIDAY, JUNE 12

CUB SCOUT BRAT FEST -- Cub Scout Pack 644 is hosting a brat fest at Von Hanson's Meats, 9030 Inwood Ave., in Cottage Grove. Serving hours are 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, June 12; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 13; and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 14. Proceeds from the fest will support the pack's winter camp.

TADPOLES TO FROGS -- Young children, ages 2 to 5, along with a parent or guardian, are invited to preschool story time, 10 to 11 a.m., on Friday, June 12, at Carpenter Nature Center, in Denmark Township. This week's theme is "Tadpoles to Frogs." The hour will include a story, a craft project, exploring outdoors and observing live animals. The fee is $5, and preregistration is requested. SATURDAY, JUNE 13

WEDDING TRADITIONS -- Longtime area resident Lorraine Brown will lead a program on "Wedding Traditions and Dresses," beginning at 10 a.m., on Saturday, June 13. Members of the South Washington Heritage Society will share stories and display dresses and wedding memorabilia. Everyone is invited to bring a dress or a memory, according to a press release. The meeting is held at St. Paul Park City Hall, 600 Portland Ave. Wedding cake and punch will be served after the presentation.

WOLVES, REPTILES AT THE CAMPFIRE -- Representatives from the Wildlife Science Center, in Forest Lake, will present a free campfire program on wolves at 7:15 p.m. Saturday, June 13, at St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park.

St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park runs along the St. Croix River on County Road 21, between County Roads 76 and 78, in Denmark Township. The program will be held in the campground amphitheater. Parking is $5 per vehicle. For details, call (651) 430-8240 or go to www.co.washington.mn.us.

At the same time and same day, Tamarack Nature Center naturalists will introduce visitors to live reptiles and amphibians, at Lake Elmo Park Reserve. Lake Elmo Park Reserve lies at the intersection of County Roads 19 and 10, one mile north of Interstate 94, in Lake Elmo. Parking is $5 per vehicle. TUESDAY, JUNE 16

NEW FARMER'S MARKET -- Members of the Cottage Grove VFW Post 8752 Auxiliary are sponsoring a farmer's market from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays, beginning June 16, at the VFW's Red Barn, 9260 Point Douglas Road, in Cottage Grove.

TOASTMASTERS OPEN HOUSE -- The Positively Outspoken Toastmasters Club invites everyone to an open house beginning at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16, at the Coldwell Banker building, 7645 Currell Blvd., in Woodbury. Refreshments will be served and visitors will have an opportunity to see what Toastmasters do, according to a press release.
