TURKEY DINNER -- Everyone's invited for the 83rd annual turkey dinner, bazaar and bake sale at the Woodbury campus of the Woodbury/Peaceful Grove United Methodist Church from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, 7465 Steepleview Road. Guests will be seated every half hour with the last seating at 6:30 p.m. The menu includes turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, corn, rolls and homemade pie. Tickets are $10 for adults and $9 for seniors. Youth, ages 4 to 11, eat for $5, and those 4 and younger, are free. For details, call the Woodbury campus at (651) 738-0305.
FIRE HALL OPEN HOUSE -- This year's theme for National Fire Prevention Week, Oct. 5 to 11, is "Prevent Home Fires." In celebration, Cottage Grove fire stations will host open houses on Thursday, Oct. 9.
- Station 1, Hadley Ave., 6 to 8 p.m.
- Station 2, 80th Street, 6 to 8 p.m.
- Station 3, 75th Street and Lamar Avenue, 6 to 7 p.m.
- Station 4, 95th Street and Jamaica Avenue, 6 to 8 p.m.
Everyone is invited to stop by one or all of the fire halls to meet local firefighters, Sparky the Fire Dog and learn about fire safety. Refreshments will be served.

LIBRARY BOOK SALE -- The Park Grove Branch Library, 7900 Hemingway Ave., Cottage Grove, will hold a sale of used library materials and donations from the public Friday through Sunday, Oct. 10 to 12 during regular library hours. Materials will be priced to sell: hardcover books at $1 and paperback books at 50 cents. Sale times are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday; and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Donations such as books, videos, DVDs, and CDs will be accepted at Park Grove Branch Library prior to the sale. Items should be in good condition; no textbooks or magazines will be accepted. Gently used children's materials are especially appreciated. Funds raised from the sale benefit libraries in Washington County.

HOMEMADE SPAGHETTI -- The American Legion Post 98 Auxiliary, St. Paul Park, is hosting a spaghetti and meatball dinner, bake sale and meat raffle from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Post Hall, 328 Broadway Ave. Dinner is $6 a plate for adults and $5.50 for youth, ages 4 to 11. Children under 3 eat free. Donations of nonperishable food items and paper products will be accepted for the Friends in Need Food Shelf, St. Paul Park.
PULLMAN CARNIVAL -- The 10th annual fall carnival at Pullman Elementary School will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at the school, 1260 Selby Ave., St. Paul Park. Ghouls and goblins of all ages are invited for a moon walk, haunted house, cake walk, games, prizes, food, a costume contest and a silent auction.
SUNDAY, OCT. 12
PANCAKE BREAKFAST -- Cooks at Newport Masonic Lodge 118, 644 Broadway Ave., St. Paul Park, are serving pancakes, eggs and link sausage from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12. Tickets are $6 for adults and $5 for children, ages 6 to 12. Children, 6 and younger, eat free. After breakfast, guests are invited to browse through the bake sale sponsored by members of the Queen Esther chapter of Eastern Star. For details, call Rick at (763) 424-5221.
CROPWALK -- The 23rd annual CropWalk for Hunger will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, at Cottage Grove United Church of Christ, 70th Street and Lamar Avenue. Everyone is invited to participate. Proceeds from the walk are shared by Friends In Need Food Shelf, St. Paul Park, and the Church World Service for hunger and disaster relief.
