WANT TO BE A CHEERLEADER OR MASCOT? -- Park High School cheerleaders have scheduled an informational meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 26 in the school cafeteria.

Anyone entering grades nine through 11 who wants to be a cheerleader or mascot for the 2009-10 school year is invited to attend. Information about the squad, tryouts and camp will be available. For details, call Lisa Morrissey at (651) 808-1112 or e-mail phscheerleading@yahoo.com.

ART, MUSIC AT SCHOOL -- The first art show of student work at Cottage Grove Elementary School will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 26. The spring band and choir concert will be presented at 7 p.m. the same night. All are invited to attend.

SPRING BUSINESS SHOWCASE -- The Cottage Grove Area Chamber of Commerce and the City of Newport invite everyone to visit the annual business showcase and home improvement fair from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, at the National Guard Armory, 8180 Belden Blvd., across the street from All Saints Lutheran Church in Cottage Grove. Admission is free and activities will include seminars every 30 minutes, samples from eight area food vendors, plus a children's coloring corner. More than 60 vendors will be available to explain their products and services. Parking is available at the Armory and at the church.

FRIDAY, MARCH 27

PASSPORT DAY -- The Washington County service center in Cottage Grove will be taking passport photos for $5 -- down from $15 -- on Friday, March 27, as part of a special promotion to inform the public about changes in passport rules. As of June 1, United States citizens will be required to present a passport book, passport card, or other travel documents approved by the federal government to enter the United States from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Bermuda at land borders and seaports of entry. Service Center hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The center is located at 90th Street and County Highway 19.

SATURDAY, MARCH 28

SALAD LUNCHEON -- The Cottage Grove VFW Post 8752 Ladies Auxiliary is hosting its annual salad luncheon beginning at 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, at the VFW Red Barn, 9260 East Point Douglas Road, in Cottage Grove. All are invited for lunch, socializing and door prizes. Tickets are $7 per person, which children, 10 and younger, $3.

MONDAY, MARCH 30

SPRING BREAK EVENTS -- The Cottage Grove Parks and Rec Department have a week full of activities for students at Peter Thompson Park during spring break, Monday through Friday, March 30 to April 3. Participants may register by the day or for the full week. Each student brings a lunch, snack and beverage every day except Friday. The schedule includes a trip to the Woodbury Movie Theater, $28; an Iditarod-style competition, $19; Wooddale Fun Zone, $28; Thrifty Thursday, $18; and Pizza and Pop, $19. WEDNESDAY, APRIL 1

CHRISTIAN ARTIST -- Dr. He Qi, renowned Christian artist, will share his techniques and faith story following Lenten worship on Wednesday, April 1, at All Saints Lutheran Church, 8100 Belden Blvd., in Cottage Grove. The community is invited to attend. Worship will be held at 6:46 p.m., Dr Qi's presentation will begin immediately following the service, according to the press release.
