At the top of the list of things to do this weekend in south Washington County is the November Scout drive for the Friends in Need Food Shelf in St. Paul Park, Gentle Saturday at Cottage Grove Middle School and stories from the home front during war time as told to the South Washington Heritage Society, plus a host of other benefits and active events.
On Saturday, Nov. 13, Boy, Girl and Cub Scouts will be collecting toiletry items for the Friends in Need Food shelf. Please place donations outside your front door by 9 a.m. No time to fill a bag? District 833 Community Education's Gentle Saturday Safari -- an event offering half- and full-day extracurricular classes -- is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 13, at Cottage Grove Middle School, 9775 Indian Blvd.
A fundraiser for Steven Stuhr, a 1974 graduate of Park High School who now lives in Cambridge, is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 13, at Dean's Tavern, 1986 Rice St., in St. Paul.
"Budgeting for the Holidays and After," a presentation to teach people how to organize holiday shopping, will take place from 1:30 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 13, at the Park Grove Branch of the Washington County Library. Area adults are invited to attend.
The Twin Cities Junior Roller Derby is hosting the Whiplash Masquerade Bash to raise funds for its youth sports league from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 13, at the Wooddale Fun Zone, 2122 Wooddale Drive in Woodbury. Admission is $10 per person or $30 per family and includes roller skate rental. Inline skates are an additional $3 per person.
Attendees are encouraged to come in costume and prizes will be awarded in different age categories. Members of TCJRD will also present a brief exhibition to explain roller derby and show their skills.
The congregation at Community United Church of Christ is holding a winter rummage sale to help support Pets in Crisis, a nonprofit organization to help homeless animals in the Twin Cities from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 13. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. everything will sell at half price. The church is located at 1145 Summit Ave., in St. Paul Park.
The South Washington Heritage Society will meet at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 13, at the St. Paul Park City Hall, 600 Portland Ave., to hear "Home front during time of War."
Members of the Park High School girls hockey team and booster club invite everyone to a spaghetti dinner fundraiser from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 14, at the Cottage Grove VFW Red Barn, 9260 East Point Douglas Road.
Chris Driesbach will perform original music on guitar and keyboard during Mission Festival services on Sunday, Nov. 14, at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. worship services at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in St. Paul Park.
The Sons of Norway Hjemkomst Lodge 599 of the Cottage Grove and Hastings areas invite area residents of all nationalities to its open house from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 14, at the Hastings Senior Center, 213 Ramsey St., in Hastings. Members will be offering samples of Norwegian foods and demonstrations of various Norwegian crafts.
