EAST RIDGE HOMECOMING -- Friday, Oct. 2 is "Gold Rush Day." Students will wear gold or a Homecoming T-shirt. A pep fest and arts and activities fair will take place during the day. The parade begins at 4 p.m. at Lake Middle School and will follow Pioneer Drive south to East Ridge. The football game starts at 7 p.m. with a dance from 9 to 11 p.m.



CLASS OF '84 -- Park High School's Class of 1984 will meet for its 25-year reunion at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3, at the American Legion Post 98 hall, 328 Broadway Ave., in St. Paul Park.

ART SHOW --Meet award winning wildlife artist Tom Gross at his showing and sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct 3, at 7330 Hyde Ave., in Cottage Grove.

POLKA MASS, DINNER, DANCE -- The Hank Thunander Band, featuring St. Thomas Aquinas Church's own Andrea Wheeler, will play at the polka Mass and chicken dinner and dance on Saturday, Oct. 3, in St. Paul Park. Mass begins at 5 p.m. with dinner at 6:15 p.m. and dancing at 7:30 p.m. Dinner will be catered by Tinucci's Restaurant. Tickets at the door are $25 for adults, $10 for youth, ages 12 and younger. The church is located at 920 Holley Ave.

JOSH KARELS BENEFIT -- Eight-year-old Josh Karels of Cottage Grove has a rare disease which causes his immune system to attack his body's major organs. To help Josh and his parents Katie and Andy Karels, friends and family have organized a benefit spaghetti dinner, on Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Croatian Hall, 445 Second Ave. S., in South St. Paul. The dinner, a silent auction, live entertainment, chair massages and a bake sale will take place from 12 to 5 p.m. A kid's dance with a DJ and an ice cream social will follow from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Everyone is invited. Tickets are available at the door for a $5 donation.


FAREWELL SERMON -- Craig Boehlke, pastor at All Saints Lutheran Church from 1978 to 1993, will preach a farewell sermon on Sunday, Oct. 4, at the Cottage Grove church. Boehlke is retiring and plans to move to South Carolina this fall.

BLESSING OF PETS -- At 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 4, following the second service, All Saints Lutheran Church in Cottage Grove will hold a Blessing of the Animals for all furry, fuzzy, scaly and feathery friends on the lawn facing Belden Blvd. The church is located at 8100 Belden Blvd., facing the Cottage Grove Armory.


HOMECOMING AT PARK -- Activities for the 2009 Park High School Homecoming, "WolfStock," begin on Monday, Oct. 5 and continue through the week with a parade at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, football game featuring Park and East Ridge at 7 p.m. and a dance after the game.

FLU CLINIC -- The Washington County Department of Public Health & Environment will offer seasonal flu shots from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 5, at the South Washington Senior Center, 8400 E. Point Douglas Road, in Cottage Grove, for anyone 6 months and older. The cost is $25 (cash or check only), or free with Medicare Part B. Medicare cards must be presented at the clinic. No other insurance will be accepted. The intranasal flu vaccine FluMist will also be available for healthy individuals age 2 to 49 years for $30. Pneumococcal vaccine will be available for adults age 65 years and older for $35, or is also covered by Medicare Part B.
