Weekend Planner: Holiday events galore this weekend in south Washington County

Depending on the weatherman, who is predicting a heavy winter snowstorm, holiday events in south Washington County fill the weekend.

The Holiday Train will stop in Cottage Grove between 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 11, near the Youth Service Bureau, 7064 West Point Douglas Road, just south of the Sieben/80th Street Bridge over Highway 61.

The drama ministry at Light the Way Church will present the Christmas musical "Two From Galilee" Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 10, 11 and 12 at the church, 7000 Jamaica Ave., in Cottage Grove.

The Woodbury Community Theatre, along with the East Metro Symphony Orchestra, presents "Amahl and the Night Visitors," at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 10 and 11, at The Loft Stage at East Ridge High School in Woodbury. The musical is written especially for children.

Rose of Sharon Lutheran Church in Cottage Grove is having a Christmas cookie bake sale, beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at the church, 6875 Jamaica Ave.

All neighborhood kids are invited to a free Christmas party from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 11, at American Legion Post 98, 328 Broadway Ave. in St. Paul Park. The party is co-hosted by the Legion and the St. Croix Valley Riders. There will be photos with Santa Claus, games, food and stockings full of goodies.

Animal Ark, the no-kill shelter at 2600 Industrial Court in Hastings, is hosting a Christmas pet adoption party from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11. All are invited There will be treats for dogs, cats and people. Donations will be welcomed; check the Ark's wish list at www.animalarkshelter.org for suggestions.

The first 150 children who bring their Christmas wish list to Santa Claus at River Oaks Golf Course will receive a special gift. Visits with Santa Claus and free horse-drawn sleigh rides are all part of the Santa Breakfast, 8 a.m. to noon on Sunday, Dec. 12, at River Oaks Golf Course, 11099 S. Highway 61 in Cottage Grove.

It's a double celebration this year for Boy Scout Troop 83, sponsored by St. Thomas Aquinas Church in St. Paul Park. The troop is celebrating its 83rd birthday while Boy Scouts of America is officially 100 years old this year. The spaghetti dinner is scheduled from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12, at the church's activity hall. All past members are invited to attend.
