CARING FOR CHILDREN YARD SALE -- The staff and management at Country Inn & Suites, in Cottage Grove, are sponsoring "Caring for Our Children" yard sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, June 4 and 5, at the hotel, 8350 East Point Douglas Road. Proceeds will go to needy children in the community.
BUCKS FOR BREAST CANCER -- Cottage Grove resident Karin Herder is leading a team garage sale to raise money for the Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk for breast cancer. The sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday, June 4 and 5 at 7085 Irvin Ave., in Cottage Grove. Antiques, furniture and baby items will be available.
FRIDAY, JUNE 5
LAST DAY THIS SEMESTER -- Friday, June 5, is the last day of school for sophomores and juniors at Park High School. Graduation ceremonies are scheduled at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 6 at Wolfpack Stadium.
FREE GARAGE SALE -- The congregation at Christ the Lord Lutheran Church is sponsoring a free garage sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, June 5, and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 6, at the church, which is located at the intersection of 90th Street and County Road 19, in Cottage Grove. "The intent is to provide some relief to folks who are having a hard time making ends meet with the economic downturn," said pastor Jonathan Leach. There will be hot dogs and juice available for browsers and a free drawing to win one of two gift certificates to Applebee's.
ALL-NIGHT VIGIL -- The World Apostolate of Fatima, Archdiocese of St. Paul/Minneapolis, is sponsoring an all-night vigil of reparation and prayer at the Church of St. Augustine, 302 Fifth Ave. N., in South St. Paul. The vigil will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, June 5, with the Tridentine Mass and will conclude with Mass at 4 a.m. on Saturday, June 6. Everyone is invited to attend all or part of the devotion.
SATURDAY, JUNE 6
TAKE A KID FISHING --
On Saturday, June 6, area families are invited to "Take a Kid Fishing," from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lions Levee Park, at the west end of Seventh Avenue. To reach the park, take Broadway west, turn left at First Street and right on Seventh Avenue. Any adult accompanied by a youth, 16 years and younger, can fish without a permit, according to the city's Park and Rec Commission, host for the event. Everyone is welcome for demonstrations on fishing and water safety. The St. Paul Park Fire Department will provide free hotdogs, chips and beverages.
OWLS, REPTILES AT CAMPFIRE -- Free campfire programs -- courtesy of the Washington County Parks Department -- are scheduled at 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, at St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park in Denmark Township and Lake Elmo Park Reserve.
Carpenter Nature Center will present "Reptiles and Amphibians" at St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park. Visitors will meet several native species and learn to identify some by sight (the reptiles) and some by sound, too, (the amphibians). The program is open to all ages and abilities.
St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park is located along the St. Croix River on County Road 21, between County Roads 76 and 78, in Denmark Township. The program will take place in the campground amphitheater. Parking is $5. For details, call (651) 430-8240 or go to www.co.washington.mn.us.
At Lake Elmo Park Reserve, Dodge Nature Center naturalists will present a program on the "World of Owls." Visitors will meet a live barred owl and learn how silently they fly.

GRAND GARAGE SALE -- More than 10,000 quality items have been donated by 250 families for the "Grand Garage Sale," 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, at St. Philips Lutheran Church, 15th St. and Pleasant Drive, in Hastings.
Items include good used clothing for all ages, antiques and collectibles, linens, furniture, household items, furniture, toys, books, sporting goods and an array of plants.
St. Philips Lutheran Church cookbooks will be sold at a discounted price and the youth of the congregation will be selling beverages and Rice Krispie treats.
Proceeds from the sale will go to educational projects and partial matching funds will be provided by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. For details, call (651) 437-6246 or (651) 437-3365.
WALKING CLUB -- The Cottage Grove Rec Department walking club, led by fitness specialist Annie Elmer, will meet at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 6, at Woodridge Park, 9000 90th Street. Everyone is invited the free event.
"We'll start walking around the Woodridge Park pond, stop for five minutes of stretching, and then, walkers up for more of a challenge, can walk up 90th Street and in to the Cottage Grove Ravine Park," Elmer said. "Those not ready for that much challenge can take an additional loop around the pond instead. The goal is to have walkers with different energy levels have an opportunity to get outdoors, be active and meet other people with similar interests."
