Weekend planner: Benefits, outdoor events this weekend
This weekend south Washington County residents have opportunities to spend time outdoors and to help two area families that are battling cancer.
Stillwater's annual Fall Colors Fine Art and Jazz Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 2 and 3, at Lowell Park. Attendees will enjoy art from 75 artists, eclectic food booths and live music.
The "Haunting Experience 3D" at Zywiec's Garden Center is open. It comes in two versions -- regular and low-scare. Tickets range from $14 to $18 and include a hayride, bonfire and free movies. Take two canned foods for the Friends in Need Food Shelf for a $1 discount. For details, go to www.hauntingexperience.com. Zywiec's is located on Highway 61 one mile south of County Road 19.
A benefit for Greg Wilwert, who grew up in Cottage Grove, is scheduled from 4 p.m. to midnight on Saturday, Oct. 2, at the Cottage Grove VFW Post 8752 Red Barn, 9260 East Point Douglas Road, in Cottage Grove. Tinucci's, Broadway Bar & Grill and LaCucaracha will provide the food. There will be a silent auction, raffle, bake sale and live music from 8 p.m. to midnight.
A benefit lunch and silent auction for the Lisa Malecha Family of Cottage Grove is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 3, at the Cottage Grove VFW Post 8752 Red Barn, at 9260 East Point Douglas Road in Cottage Grove. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and there will be a craft area for kids.
American Legion Post 98 Women's Auxiliary is hosting a French toast breakfast buffet from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 3, at the legion hall, 328 Broadway Ave., in St. Paul Park. Everyone is invited. Tickets are $7.50 for adults and $5.50 for kids, ages 4 to 10. Children, 3 and younger, eat free.
All Saints Lutheran Church in Cottage Grove will host a special service at 12:21 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 3, for a Blessing of the Animals.
