JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR -- In its second weekend of production, Park High School presents, "Jesus Christ Superstar," at 7 p.m. April 23, 24 and 25 and at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 26. LEUKEMIA RESEARCH BENEFIT --Thursday, April 23, is a Dining-to-Donate day at Applebee's Neighborhood Bar and Grill, 8380 East Point Douglas Road, in Cottage Grove. With presentation of a flyer, Applebee's will donate 20 percent of your bill to Team Jessica, a Cottage Grove-based group of people raising money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. WORSHIP AT SENIOR LIVING SITES -- The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America is offering worship services at Norris Square and White Pines Senior Living at 2 p.m. on alternating Thursdays. Services will be led by pastors from All Saints Lutheran Church, Zion Lutheran Church, and Newport Lutheran Church on a rotating basis. On Thursday, April 23, Pastor Eldon DeWeerth will be at Norris Square, at the intersection of Grange and Hadley avenues on the west side of Highway 61 for worship with Holy Communion. Services are open to residents and families of residents.
FRIDAY, APRIL 24
TRASH TO TREASURE SALE -- Cottage Grove United Church of Christ, Lamar Avenue and 70th Street, is holding its annual "Trash to Treasure sale" on Friday and Saturday, April 24 and 25, according to a press release. On Friday, the sale runs from on 12 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday, items will sell for $4 per bag. Lunch will be available for purchase and there will be a bake sale and next-to-new room.
SATURDAY, APRIL 25
ROXY MUELLER BENEFIT -- Friends, family and co-workers of Cottage Grove resident and District 833 school bus driver Roxy Mueller are organizing a benefit spaghetti dinner and dance from 2 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, at the Cottage Grove VFW Post Red Barn, 9260 East Point Douglas Road. Mueller contracted bacterial meningitis last October and, as a result, has lost eight fingers and both legs just below the knee. Everyone is invited for dinner from 2 to 6 p.m. and the dance from 7 to 10 p.m. Activities will include music by Bob and the Beachcombers and the James Zackary Band, silent auction and bake sale. Tickets are a $15 donation for dinner; $10 for the dance; and $20 for both.
MASONIC SPAGHETTI -- The Newport Masonic Lodge is serving a spaghetti dinner from 4 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, at the hall, corner of Broadway and Summit avenues, in St. Paul Park. Tickets are $8 per adult and $5 for children, ages 12 to 5 years. Children, 4 and younger, eat free.
TILSON GARAGE SALE -- After 16 months of tragedy, sorrow and anxiety, Deb and Dan Tilson, of St. Paul Park, are ready to start fresh. One of the first steps in their return to a normal life is a four-day garage sale at 1032 Holley Ave., in St. Paul Park, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday through Sunday, April 23 to 26. "We're getting rid of three families-worth of furniture, antiques and household items," Deb Tilson said.
VARIETY SHOW, PASTA -- The Saturday, April 25 variety show and pasta dinner at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, in St. Paul Park, begins at 6 p.m. in the parish hall. Everyone is invited for comedy, magic, singing, gymnastics and dancing. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for youth, 10 years and younger.
FREE MAPLE TREE FOR ARBOR DAY -- The first 150 Cottage Grove residents to visit the city's annual Arbor Day event, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, will receive a free maple tree. Throughout the event -- at Cottage Grove Public Works, 8635 West Point Douglas Road -- representatives from area nurseries and landscaping companies will be available to answer questions about lawn care and flower and tree maintenance. They will also have trees available for purchase
SUNDAY, APRIL 26
AWARD-WINNING BOOYA -- Booya, prepared by members of American Legion 98 and 40&8 Group, will be sold by the bowl at $3 each or by any container for take-out beginning at 11 a.m. on Sunday, April 26, at the Legion Hall, 328 Broadway Ave., in St. Paul Park. Crafts, homemade baked goods and meat raffles will be available for visitors sponsored by the Legion Auxiliary.
SWEDISH MEATBALLS, AUCTION -- Youth at Newport Lutheran Church are hosting a Swedish meatball dinner, silent auction and quilt raffle fundraiser beginning at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 26, at the church, 900 15th Street. Funds from the event will help support their trip to the 2009 ELCA National Youth Gathering in New Orleans in July. Tickets are $7.50 for adults and $5 for children, ages 6 to 12. Children, 5 and younger, eat free. Take-out orders will be available.
