Washington County jail to house more state offenders
The Washington County Board approved an agreement between the sheriff’s office and the state of Minnesota April 1 allowing an increase in the number of inmates that the state will house in the county jail.
The county already has a joint powers agreement with the state corrections commissioner to house offenders in the county jail. This is an amendment to that agreement and increases the total contract by $140,000, to $240,000 a year.
Washington County Sheriff Bill Hutton said the state has been experiencing an increase in the inmate population. The county jail will serve overflow.
