Washington County to assist with All-Star Game security
Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game festivities will have some Washington County sheriff’s deputies on the lookout.
The sheriff’s office signed an agreement with Minneapolis Police to provide public safety and security during the events from July 11-16.
Deputies will participate in the parade and bike patrol after receiving the proper training, Sheriff Bill Hutton said.
The county will send seven deputies to participate, but no overtime expenses will be paid, he added.
Hutton said Washington County will not be responsible for any calls from Minneapolis precincts, but if a major incident happens, officers will assist.
“Obviously if something does occur, we are law enforcement officers and this is what we do,” he said. “However, this is not the (Republican National Convention), we do not expect to have any significant events. However, we have to be prepared for things we do not expect.”
