Voter turnout near 18 percent in School District 833 election
A multi-million-dollar school property tax levy and the election of a majority of District 833 School Board members drew about 18 percent of registered voters to the polls last week.
The Nov. 5 election saw a 17.9 percent turnout in District 833, according to Washington County elections officials. There were 10,176 ballots cast; registered voters in the district total 56,770.
School Board Chairman Ron Kath said that’s about the turnout he expected, given that snow was forecasted for late on Election Day.
“I knew we’d come in somewhere around 20 percent,” he said.
St. Paul Park, where voters also elected two City Council members, had the highest voter turnout at 21.5 percent. In Cottage Grove, 18 percent of voters went to the polls. Woodbury’s voter turnout was 17.9 percent. Newport had 12 percent voter turnout.
