It was a daily routine: When I was younger, I would get the newspaper in the morning and turn right to the sports box scores to see how my favorite teams performed the previous night.

That was the case for the professional sports that I followed, but also for my local high school teams. I couldn't wait to peruse the sports pages for that basic information.

The way that we get that information is changing, but people certainly have a similar interest in getting their local high school sports scores as soon as they can. A good indicator of that is the strong following enjoyed by varsity athletic teams at Park and East Ridge high schools, along with New Life Academy and other areas schools.

While we pride ourselves on strong local sports coverage in the weekly Bulletin print edition, those efforts obviously do not satisfy sports fans in a multimedia culture. So to help meet that demand we've added a new feature to the Bulletin's website that makes it easier - and faster - to follow local high school sports.

We're simply calling it "Scoreboard." Bulletin sports editor Patrick Johnson is posting all of the local high school sports game results and box scores to the website daily. The site is www.swcbulletin.com. Whenever varsity games or meets take place, you can expect to find the Scoreboard on the Bulletin home page and sports page.

If only one team plays on a given night, that game's result will be the extent of the Scoreboard. If there are a dozen - or more - local games, they all will be in the Scoreboard, provided we receive the results.

This does not replace existing content; it is in addition to the stories that Patrick and other sports staff post online following varsity games and the weekly print edition's full sports section. We think it further proves that the South Washington County Bulletin is the best source for local news and sports coverage.

The Scoreboard already has proved a popular item on our website. We also are exploring other ways we can help keep you informed of local news and sports, and will share more about that in the future.

In the meantime, I hope a visit to the Bulletin's Scoreboard will be part of your daily routine.
