Vehicle flips in suspected DWI crash in Cottage Grove
A Woodbury man faces criminal charges after he allegedly flipped his car while driving drunk in Cottage Grove.
Police and paramedics were called about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, to the 8000 block of Hornell Avenue, near Hinton Avenue, for a reported rollover. Police found the driver, later identified as Tyler J. Wylie, 19, sitting across the street.
According to police, Wylie was driving eastbound when his car left the road and struck a mailbox and then a large tree at 8094 Hornell Ave. The car rolled onto its roof. There were no passengers in the car.
Wylie showed signs of intoxication when police made contact with him, according to the report. A preliminary breath test indicated his blood-alcohol concentration was 0.276, more than three times the legal driving limit.
Wylie was taken by ambulance to Regions Hospital in St. Paul and then transported to the Washington County jail. He was arrested on suspicion of third-degree drunken driving, underage consumption, no insurance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
