Statewide groups to address economic challenges
Cottage Grove Minnesota 7584 80th Street South 55016

With many working families in Washington County and across the state facing stagnating wages and going without either health coverage or quality child care, three Minnesota organizations will discuss efforts to reverse those trends at a special forum in Woodbury on Tuesday, March 18.

The event will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Woodbury City Hall (Ash Conference Room on first floor), 8301 Valley Creek Road in Woodbury. It is free and open to the public and pizza and drinks will be served.

The three groups -- Children's Defense Fund (CDF) Minnesota, Child Care WORKS, and the JOBS NOW Coalition -- will discuss their "Working Family Initiative" which will promote policies to increase access to health care, child care and family-supporting wages.

"Today in Minnesota, too many working parents are finding it increasingly difficult to access quality child care, afford health coverage, and make ends meet while working full-time," said Carole Specktor, Legislative and Advocacy Direct for CDF Minnesota. "This is an opportunity for people in Woodbury and across Washington County to share their stories and find out what's happening statewide to help families deal with these critical issues."

Representatives from the three groups will discuss child care, health care and wage issues and hear from families in Washington County and across the region to learn how they are faring. The three groups will also talk about policy initiatives at the State Capitol aimed at providing greater stability to Minnesota's working families.
