St. Paul Park water, sewer rates expected to increase
St. Paul Park home and business owners can expect an increase in sewer and water bills beginning Jan. 1.
City Council members struggled Monday night with the first proposed increase in utility rates since 2004.
City administrator Kevin Walsh told the council the rate increase is needed to pay higher bills from the Metropolitan Council, which treats the city's wastewater and sewage and to pay for routine maintenance of the systems.
"Ninety percent of the bills we send out are to homeowners who use under 20,000 gallons quarterly," Walsh said. "The increase on those bills should be about $9 or less."
Council will take formal action on the rate increases at its Dec. 1 meeting.
