St. Paul Park, Minn., man, 83, dies after accidentally hit by vehicle driven by wife
An elderly St. Paul Park man's death was called "a tragic accident" after the car his wife was driving hit him while he was working near the couple's driveway.
Edward Howard, 83, was doing yard work Thursday evening near the back door of the home, which shares an area with the driveway. Howard's wife, Margaret, 80, was leaving the home in a full-size car and struck her husband while backing out of the driveway, St. Paul Park Police Chief Mike Monahan said.
Police were called to the home in the 1300 block of Marshall Avenue at 6:17 p.m. on a report that a man was hit by a car and run over. Howard suffered a head injury and "critical trauma to the upper portion of the body," according to a police report. Emergency workers transported Howard to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, where he died.
Police, the State Patrol and the Ramsey County Medical Examiner are investigating, but Monahan said that is standard procedure.
"At this point it appears to be nothing but a tragic accident," he said.
