St. Paul Park City Council candidate viewpoint: Darrin Smith
I was born and raised in St. Paul Park, where my parents still live. I have two brothers and one sister who still live in the area. I attended Pullman Elementary, Oltman Junior High and Park High School.
I currently work for Point Of Sale Systems as a field technician.
I have learned over the years how to solve problems by working with customers in finding the best, low-cost solution to fill their needs and to reach their goals. I served as a military police officer in Operation Desert Storm, where I developed my leadership skills, while looking after the safety of our troops and the Saudi Arabian citizens.
One of my main goals is to try and raise the value of the existing housing stock in St. Paul Park by cleaning up the houses that are currently not complying with local housing codes. By working with law enforcement to connect the community closer together, I’m hoping to bring back some of the small town feel I remember as a kid in St. Paul Park. Making our St. Paul Park a better community will provide opportunities for economic development, which will spur job growth and create a better community for our citizens to call home.
